Loving Signs from the Other Side
Losing someone we love can leave us longing for reassurance that they’re still close. Many people receive gentle signs from their loved ones in spirit, whether it’s a bird at just the right moment, a flickering light, or a song that suddenly plays on the radio. These meaningful signs remind us that love continues beyond physical life, and that our loved ones are still watching over us.
Our loved ones in spirit often communicate with us through signs and symbols. These gentle reminders can reassure us that they are near, inspire us, and confirm that consciousness continues beyond physical death.
The way signs appear can vary from person to person. They’re often connected to personal memories, habits, or interests unique to your loved one, because the goal is for you to recognize the sign as theirs.
For example, my father and mother each have their own special signs that they’ve been sending me over the years. My father comes through as a blue jay (his favorite baseball team’s mascot), while my mother visits me as a red cardinal.
One extraordinary moment happened when my mother was in hospice. As the doctor shared her diagnosis with our family, a blue jay landed on the window ledge outside her room and stayed there for nearly ten minutes. Remarkably, the bird flew away the moment the doctor left. It was as though my father was present, offering comfort at that exact moment.
Since my mother’s passing, she has appeared to me daily as a red cardinal. For the last three months, she has visited every afternoon, often singing for long stretches of time. One afternoon in particular, the cardinal sang unusually loud and persistently, making sure both my husband and I noticed. In that moment, my intuition told me she was sending well wishes for our daughter, who had just gotten engaged.
Common Signs from Loved Ones in Spirit
Here are some of the most common ways your departed loved ones may reach out to you:
Nature – Birds, feathers, butterflies, dragonflies, rainbows, flowers, or even a sudden breeze.
Through People – Messages may come through a medium, a family member, or even a stranger’s words.
Electrical Phenomena – Flickering lights, radios or TVs turning on or off, alarms malfunctioning, or unexpected issues with cameras and computers.
Synchronicities – Seeing repeating numbers, hearing your loved one’s favorite song, finding coins (like dimes), or being drawn to objects or photos you inherited.
Scents – A sudden whiff of their cigar, perfume, fresh bread, or apple pie appearing out of nowhere.
Physical Sensations & Thoughts – A random memory that makes you smile, goosebumps, the feeling of a hug, a gentle caress, or hearing your name called softly.
Each of these is a way for your loved one to say, “I’m here. I’m watching over you.”
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to actively search for signs. Instead, allow them to flow naturally into your life. Trust your intuition and that unmistakable feeling in your gut, it’s often the clearest confirmation that your loved one in spirit is reaching out to communicate with you.
