My Experiences with Spirit

Unbeknownst to me, my family purchased a home on Kirby Road, a rural concession road north of the village of Kleinburg, known as one of the “most haunted roads in Ontario.” I’ll admit the road is very isolated. At night it is pitch black and a little spooky, even for a spiritual medium. I must admit I was oblivious to the road’s reputation and tragic history when we bought the home.

About a week after settling in, I woke at 3 a.m. to a light tapping on my bedroom window. That’s odd, I thought. There are no bushes or trees near that window. I focused my eyes on the glass and, to my shock, saw the face of a young girl. She looked about sixteen years old, with long, straight black hair and a very pale face that gave off the spiritual glow I often see when connecting with spirit communicators. Once I steadied my heart rate, I realized I was experiencing a spirit visitation. It has happened numerous times to me before, when my Grandpa, Dad and even Grandma visited me in the middle of the night and often when I’m  staying in hotels.

I asked the teenage spirit what she wanted, but she gave no reply. She seemed simply curious, perhaps drawn to my open, heightened energy as a medium. I told the teenage spirit she was disturbing my sleep and asked her to leave the property. With some reluctance, she did, and I haven’t seen her since. I do often feel spirits checking in on me, both outside on the property and within the house.

About two weeks later, we began renovations. Once again I was woken in the early morning hours, this time by a German gentleman in spirit, standing at the foot of my bed and staring at me. I sensed that he was very familiar with the space, and I knew immediately that he was the home’s original owner, who had since passed away. Again I tried not to panic. Neither spirit meant any harm. Both were curious about me and wanted their presence acknowledged by someone who could sense them.

I greeted him and told him how much we loved the house. I explained that we were renovating the washrooms and making a few other changes to help us settle in, and that we admired his original build and his unique touches, which we would maintain and honour. I promised to take good care of the home and property in his memory. He seemed pleased by my respectful manner and eventually left. Over the next two months I was very aware of his presence during the renovations, as though he were checking in to monitor our progress.

Curious about these two visitations, I went online to test my suspicions. I learned that on November 1, 1993, a teenager named Selina DeGasperis died in a car accident on our street. I found an article about the tragedy that included her photo, and I gasped. I recognized her face immediately. Article About Tragedy  She was the girl who had tapped on my window. I also contacted the previous owner of the property to ask about the original owner. He confirmed that the man was German, that he had built the home, and that he had owned all the acreage in the area.

Looking back, I don’t think either spirit visitor came to frighten me. One was a homeowner watching over the house he built. The other was a young woman whose life was cut short on the road outside my door.

On November 1, the 33rd anniversary of Selina’s tragic accident, I will again honour her by placing flowers in my front window. I am never spooked by the spirit.  I am curious and respectful of their presence and messages.  I feel privileged to be a conduit for the spirit world.
